Skip to content Since January 2023 we have taken a pledge to keep looking at ways to reduce our impact, to educate the children and ourselves and keep moving towards a more sustainable environment, whilst we know it is unlikely we will ever reach net zero we are determined to do what we can.
Our actions send out a ripple effect and not only affect our World but the whole planet. We need to learn to take care of our Planet, the Worlds resources, we can all make a difference, it is critical for us humans to improve the impact we have on the environment. There are many things we do here at Children’s House on a daily /weekly to ensure we are using and supporting our local community and becoming more sustainable

As from January 2023 we have partnered up with Ecologi, to plant trees and offset our carbon footprint to help stop rising temperatures and end climate change.
We pledge to plant one tree for every child that enrolls at Children’s House and for every new staff member, we also have planted one tree for all current staff members.
We have always favoured natural resources; they are usually so much more interesting than plastic toys.
Natural resources encourage creativity and imagination, plastic toys often can only be used for their purpose, which can restrict children’s thinking skills.
By having real everyday objects in a nursery setting, children can expand their imaginative play, encouraging them to think about how the equipment can be used or what they can represent rather than using the resource for what it looks like, due to its colour or pattern. A resource such as a cardboard tube can pose unlimited opportunities for imaginative play, and children tend to gravitate
towards them for that very reason.
A small toy car is just a car, but a tube can be a bridge, a tunnel, an aeroplane, a rocket, a building block, and who knows what else. While a box of plastic rattles may all look different, each one smells, and tastes and feels the same to a small child so a variety of materials, tastes and smells is far more important. Tree trunks and wooden planks can support children in creating structures and developing physical skills, through body movements such as climbing and balancing.
We use Ecoeggs for laundry, these are a complete replacement for laundry detergent and fabric conditioner.
The eco eggs contain mineral pellets that ionize the oxygen molecules, lifting away the dirt and grime without fading colours of damaging fibres, softening as well, it doesn’t contain any harsh chemicals, petrochemicals, bleaches or ammonia’s so it’s a great choice for washing baby clothes and clothes for eczema sufferers or allergy sufferers. The ball itself is made from recyclable material – as long as you put it in the recycling – but it should be able to hand it down to your grandchildren as its made of plastic! (10-year guarantee).

Staff all complete an Environmental Awareness course
We are aiming to keep looking at ways to increase our sustainability with such things as homemade wet wipes we have been trailing and looking at nappy being recycled for energy production.
